Datacentre Technician

 

Our client, a long-established commercial datacentre, provides a wide range of services including shared hosting, cloud computing, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, crypto miners, part and full racks, and multi-rack corporate cages, and the networking connectivity to support these. 

 

We are seeking a Data Centre Technician to assist the Data Centre Manager / Senior Data Centre Technician in building and maintaining infrastructure to support their customers. You will be responsible for the resolution of hardware issues, deployment of new systems and to reinstall systems as needed.. 

 

The role involves: 

·         Installing and maintaining servers (Microsoft Windows, Linux etc.) 

·         Responding to, and resolving requests / faults logged both internally and by customers 

·         Installing switches, routers and network hardware

·         Monitoring all servers

·         Working with the Customer Operations team in configuring customer requirements

·         Escalating problems and issues to the Operations Team

·         Working closely with 3rd party service providers

 

Technically, we're looking for candidates with a range of infrastructure and networking technology skills, and a keen desire to learn more. Familiarity with Microsoft and Linux operating systems, and a general understanding of computer networking. Experience in troubleshooting and installing operating systems, networking and software. You should have excellent technical skills and a logical approach to diagnosing and resolving technical issues.

 

Personally, whilst this is a technical role, everyone in the team is customer facing and you will need a customer-centric approach, be comfortable discussing customers requirements with them, be supportive and inspire the customer's confidence when resolving problems, and be committed to ensuring that customers achieve maximum uptime. Inline with best practice you will need to conscientiously document changes to systems, customer support calls etc. as appropriate for a quality-conscious company which is operating to ISO 9001, 14001 & 27001 standards. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to develop and build relationships, and to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment.

 

Ideal candidates will be: 

·         Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in an IT or related subject)

·         Hold Microsoft Certification (MCP)
