Senior Datacentre Technician

 

Our client, a long-established commercial datacentre, provides a wide range of services including shared hosting, cloud computing, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, crypto miners, part and full racks, and multi-rack corporate cages, and the networking connectivity to support these. 

 

We are seeking a Senior Data Centre Technician to build and maintain infrastructure to support their customers. You will be responsible for the design, build and deployment of new IT Cloud Services, network administration and troubleshooting, solution design and provision of customer support. As a Senior Technician you will provide a point of escalation for Data Centre Technicians and manage the team. 

 

The role involves: 

·         Designing, building and deploying new IT Cloud Services

·         Responding to, and resolving requests / faults logged both internally and by customers 

·         Installing and configuring switches, routers and network hardware

·         Monitoring all Network resources 

·         Working with the Sales Team in configuring customer requirements

·         Escalating problems and issues to the Operations Team

·         Working closely with 3rd party service providers

 

Technically, we are looking for candidates with a broad range of infrastructure and networking technology and technology management skills, e.g; 

·         A broad range of LAN and WAN tech including Cisco IOS, Firewalls, VPN, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, QoS etc. 

·         Familiarity with Virtualisation Technologies, including Microsoft System Centre Suite, OnApp and Solus

·         Installation, configuration & maintenance of operating systems including Microsoft Windows Server and Linux variants

·         Experience of SANs, NAS Storage Systems, and knowledge of VOIP PBX Systems

 

Personally, whilst this is a highly technical role, everyone in the team is customer facing and you will need a customer-centric approach, be comfortable discussing customers’ requirements with them, be supportive and inspire the customers’ confidence when resolving problems.  You will be committed to ensuring that customers achieve maximum uptime. In line with best practice you will need to conscientiously document changes to systems, customer support calls etc. as appropriate for a quality-conscious company which is operating to ISO 9001, 14001 & 27001 standards. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to develop and build relationships, and to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment.

 

Ideal candidates will be: 

·         Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in an IT or related subject)

·         Hold Microsoft Certification (MCP) and / or Cisco Certification (CCNP) and / or a Linux Certification

·         Have at least 5 GCSEs at grade A-C (Including Maths/English)

·         Be familiar with relevant ISO Standards (9001,14001,27001) 

·         Have a Minimum of 3 years practical Datacentre IT experience
